KEEPS IN TOUCH

ASUS P750
The first thing that strikes you upon opening the box pack of the touchscreen ASUS P750 is that it’s packed with accessories: an AC adaptor, a mini-USB cable, headset, stylus, a car cell phone charg
er, a car kit (PDA holder and windshield suction pedestal), protection case, a belt clip protection case, a getting-started CD, a quick-start guide booklet and even a CD with bonus software. The second thing you notice is that the phone is huge. At 130 gms, it makes for a solid weapon; only problem: It can’t be concealed. The device promises to make an unsightly bulge in any pocket. Still, the P750 comes across as a gadget that the modern-day Robinson Crusoe would like to be marooned with. He wouldn’t beat-off cannibals, but it sure looks sturdy enough to break a few coconuts. Also, since it is GPS-enabled, our Crusoe would have no problem finding his way around any island. Windows Mobile 6 makes sure he has access to all his mails, can receive his MMS and SMS, play videos and music, and even write his journal in MS Word. Of course, he’ll also have access to Excel and Powerpoint. The P750’s nifty and functional stylus makes for a great style statement. Add to that two cameras – including one for video conferencing – and you have a complete package to get stranded with. On the downside, however, the phone is not conducive to single-handed SMSing. And its low centre of gravity – due to its huge touch-screen – can make for cumbersome handling. All in all, if you’re someone who is always on the move, needs to lug around his complete office on a belt clip, and can afford the huge data charges, the P750 is not a bad Man Friday to bet on. But yes, it doesn’t come cheap!
